A New Chapter for The Reading Rooms: Help Us Rename or Our Glorious Top-Floor Room!
Way back in October 2009, we opened The Reading Rooms, a three-room boutique bed and breakfast in a grade II listed Georgian townhouse on Margate's historic, tree-lined Hawley Square. We named our rooms simply: Room One, Room Two, and Room Three.
For eleven years, this simplicity worked perfectly. Then, with Covid-19, we took the decision to close Room Two, the middle room. This left us with an unusual situation—Rooms One and Three, but no Room Two.
To address this, we renamed the first floor, Room One, as "The Salon" and Room Three as "The Attic" on the top floor. However, after four years, we feel that "The Attic" doesn't quite capture the essence of our special room at the top of the house. This room offers a breathtaking sea view over the treetops and has its own private staircase.
That's where you come in! We value the feedback and ideas from our guests, many of whom have shared a fondness for the room formerly known as Room Three.
We've opened the discussion on our Instagram and Facebook pages, and the ideas are coming in:
• Penthouse
• Treetops
• Room Three
The view and light from the three windows are standout features of this room. Perched on a hillside, it overlooks the treetops of Hawley Square and the old town and stretches out to the sea in the distance. The sea and sky blur, with Margate and Cliftonville laid out in miniature. The room is bright and airy, decorated in a custom lime wash mixed by Liam, and there's a signature stripped-back plaster wall. The slightly cool tone of white harmonises beautifully with the bright northern light.
